When manufactures attempt to convince people it’s as thing to gift a car, so long as it has a big red bow on it
Yes honey that’s right...I said I want a highlander for Christmas, make it happen.

Do people actually gift cars to people on christmas, or is that just a made up thing? Surely rich people can do it, but does any normal type of family do this?

I was the new guy at a Lexus dealer during Christmas, so the big ass bows were my problem. Had to bring them down from storage and put them on all the cars in the showroom. We only had one person ask to use it at their house though, so I had to run it over to him, wait for him to unveil it to his wife, and then bring it back.

No idea. I can’t imagine it happens outside of a coincidence in timing much

I mean, this stuff happens. Not as in “I want a Land Cruiser for Christmas” but “My wife/husband already wants to change their car or my child just got their licence, I might as well make the purchase a surprise”

Thank you dear it’s just start I wanted and...who’s that?
Oh him? Just the bow guy, don’t mind him...now let’s go inside for some prosciutto and cocktails

My stepfather — who had dough — took me with him to order a new car for my mother for Mothers Day at the dealership. 1973 Mercury Marquis Brougham with a 429 CID engine and various other options. I think he arranged delivery at the door. The divorce was ugly and my mom, never one to take particular care of a car, ran hers low on oil and spun a bearing.

I actually do know a normal person, who gave his wife a new ‘87 Dodge Caravan for Christmas. They needed a new family hauler anyways, and the Caravan was exactly what she wanted.

I can see that I guess, still feels weird. I think I would feel wrong seeing a car for me with a bow on it...

If I was told this I’d come home in a kilt.

Oof, there’s a lot to take in there

Totally innocent and why-no-i’d-never-do-this question: Is it okay to buy Christmas cars for people off Craigslist? What if they’re not $900 Hondas that smell like Wendy’s fries and are more like $3k Mercury Cougars that smell like burger and have an oil leak?
AT WHAT POINT IS A CL CAR PURCHASE EXPENSIVE ENOUGH TO BE OKAY

My family did that once...my mom’s current car was presented to her as a “Valentine’s day gift” back in 2007, complete with a bow.

Me too, but weirdly enough this is a thing my mother always wanted, to get a new car with a bow on it.

Depends on what point the giftee draws the line between asset and liability

Merry Christmas! Have some taxes.

If they are actually looking for said liability, then it counts for double, right?

I think she ruined the car to spite him. It’s a family affair, but definitely Oppo. I think it was, in all, a fine car, if also as large as a tuna vessel.

No is a great ride, sad to hear it succumbed to an untimely end

It’s hard to read about the death of such a magnificent beast. The family troubles as well, I suppose. (I jest)

Yeah, well, so did the marriage.
C’est la vie

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... I neglected to mention: The cost of the car was $5,500...

I neglected to mention that the price of the car was $5,500 in 1973...

Wait, are we still talking about the Brougham?

I have seen it. Complete surprise gift for an older relative, a new fully loaded Sienna. No one in the family expected it, and her face when she saw it was so massive it makes me want to do it in the future.

The real gift isn’t the car, it’s the fact that you are not making the receiver go through the purchase experience.

It would actually be pretty interesting to ask an S.O. of a jalop to find a car for them on Craigslist for whatever the budget of your next car would be. I know exactly what car I would get if I were to sell my two cars. Can you imagine, if You just asked your partner “buy a car on Craigslist for $_____ for me for Christmas.”
Way better relationship test than most I’ve done or heard of.
